EF#8 – Hey You…. Yes You

A letter written Image courtesy of Simon Howden at Freedigitalphotos.nte

Keep be true to yourself, that’s the most important thing. Remember that.

Hey you…. a man with blue shirt, how are you? How was your 23rd birthday? I am sure you are not focusing on that thing now, but more into your weekend studies. Yep. I know you were so busy with it, in hoping to graduating soon enough with a great grades. But you know what, don’t just focus on those grades only, okay? Just enjoyed every moments you have day by day.

I am sure you are wondering, how come I know so much about you, right? That’s because, I am you, only 10 years older. No. I am not writing this letter to persuade you to change something in the last 10 years. I had lots of experiences during those years and really learnt a lot from them. I am writing this because I just want to say hello to you.

Hello to the young and fresh version of me, LoL. You know, thinking way back, I never expected that my life, I mean our life gonna be like this. I remembered, during your age, we were thinking to study abroad through scholarship. Well, we haven’t got that scholarship up until this moment, but we were already went abroad. And it was West Africa. Africa Man…. whom ever thought we would go that far. It was great experience lad, such as worked with those expatriates from all over the world and learnt from them. Let me tell you a secret, lad. We, Indonesian, can compete with them, we only lacked in language. So do please improve your international languages.

Taste the bitter one then you know the sweets taste
Taste the bitter one then you know the sweets taste

And if I went back further, many things happened in our life and changed our perspective, at least mine was changed. When those things happened, you were too focusing on the problems, but as time go by, you realized that those things made you stronger and the way you want to be at the end. You will be crushed and burned, almost to death, by people who you thought loving you with all their hearts. But, really, just enjoy the ride, lad. And you will see after, that everything was really happened for a reason and you’ve became the person whom you really looking for.

You’ve became working as an internal accountant – dealing with those numbers, reports and budgets – as you always dream of since high school. You also going to worked in Cirebon – this is the first time you were stayed outside your childhood town and learnt how to be a “anak kost”. You will taste how it felt to fall in love and also you will know how to have a broken heart, by the same person.

Sad? Don’t be lad. Because, like I said, they didn’t kill you (otherwise I won’t be able to write this letter) but actually they made you stronger and stronger. Made you realized that life is about having the whole package of coffee, the bitter taste of it so you know how sweet a drop of sugar in it. You won’t know the beauty of life if you weren’t see the darkness before it.

Okay… looks like I’m writing too long now. For the last thing, lad please remember that you will always have family who cares for you, friends who stand by your side, love from all those people around you and finally, you always have home in their hearts.
